a really splendid example of the style, not too long removed from st pattys day. served on nitro, the almost white head is shaving cream thick, and the ring lacing it leaves is gorgeous. the beer is deep in color and fuller looking in body, mellow though, and attractive in the pint. aroma is dry roasted barley, very little else, no sweeter caramel middle grains to this, and not much of a chocolate malt character either. i dont get a lot from the yeast, but it seems to have done its job pretty well here. the flavor is basic, traditional, and well refined. i do get a little european character from the yeast which i like in this style, and a nice dry dark malt complexion, very little sweetness to it, deep and dark with a coffee essence and some bitterness to go with it, fast finishing and hearty overall. great texture from the nitro, its velvet and not as heavy as it looks, smooth going down and warming up well too. these guys are making some of the better beers in town so far in my experience here, really digging just about all of them! this is an excellent example of the style.
