they more than make up for the mediocre black ipa with this killer new dark mild, maybe the best example of this style i have had from the state, gorgeously done, highly refined, full of flavor, infinitely drinkable, and perfect for these cold winter evenings. looks deep brown with some reddish edges, a little shine on it, and a frothy light tan head an inch high with some ring lacing as i sip down the pint. it smells awesome, bready english yeast, a rustic hearth loaf suggesting a multigrain base, or at least multiple specialty malts, a hint of smoke, dry baking cocoa, raisin, and light wood even, real complex. it has big flavors too, surprisingly low in alcohol for how much it has going on. i think the fermentation is expert, one of their best to date, nice work with this strain, it really makes the style for me. i also like how this is dry at the end despite being so malt driven, earthy, and full. i like the bitter roasted note on the back end for balance too, and i think this more than checks all the boxes for the style for me. really well made, i could have stayed and sucked these down all night. one of the best recent beers no doubt!
