just dubbed citrus wheat, this isnt anything special, its heavy beyond the way wheat malt should make it, is under carbonated, and also a little dense and flat looking for a beer style i want to hold a head and have some effervescence and life to it, and the fruit part is weird, all on the finish, generic orangey, and without a lift of freshness that i was hoping it would carry, conceivably made for patio season, but this isnt as peppy and fresh and bright as it ought to be. not awful either, i like the taste of the wheat, the overall apparent simplicity of the recipe, and the approachability, generally speaking, this in inoffensive mass appeal beer, but its not really technically very solid, and im not saying versus the ballers of our region like pfriem and fremont and places we all sort of unequivocally trust to make excellent quality beer every time, i am also talking in reference to other locals, like this would hands down be the worst beer on tap at berts right now, which is maybe an unfair comparison because berts is outstanding, but like, those are the choices local folks have when deciding where to go have a beer, and lost grove isnt measuring up anymore. i was glad to see a few new flavors, innovation has been minimal here, and it does have some summery character, but the lack of refinement stands out to me more than anything positive. i am being a bit harsh perhaps, and i feel bad, but the truth is that these guys are capable of far better, i know that to be true, so maybe time to refocus with objective quality front and center. bitter orange to this late, a little detergent aspect to it, a slightly acidic linger, also some residual sugar, some wheat weight, maybe a lightly stressed fermentation thing too, could be cleaner, not bad, but leaves a lot to be desired too. the standard has to be higher than mediocrity. tell us about the fruit, make this thing sparkle, put some thought into the branding, i dont know, it all just feels half hearted...
