Pedestal is our line of single hop beer where we single out one particularly delicious hop and put it up high on a hazy pedestal for your taste buds to enjoy in all its isolated, lupulin filled glory.

This particular version sees us use a hop that’s been around for many years now, and one we’ve had some limited success with in the past: Strata. One of the main reasons we haven’t sent this hop on a solo beer adventure yet is that it can vary dramatically from its best, fruitiest self. Which is why we buckled down, asked Indie Hops (its creator) what the best, most fruity lot it had was, and then sourced it just for this beer!

We’re looking for those passionfruit, melon, strawberry, and grapefruit notes with some underlying dank in this one!

473ml can served cold into a tulip. Durand purchase. Canned January 10, 2024.

Appearance - Hazy golden color with huge plumage in the form of a three finger frothy white head. Excellent staying power and huge curtains of lacing left behind.

Smell - Mild perfumey citrus with some floral accents. Not a big nose. Passionfruit and berries are most prevalent amongst the fruity notes.

Taste - Low bitterness, a touch of sourness. Lots of strawberry with some melon backing things up. Grapefruit pith as well, but quite minor compared to the other two..

Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Fairly juicy, with a slightly drier finish. A creamy quality to the beer (and is commonplace in Badlands IPA's).

Overall - Pretty solid IPA. Leans a bit more sour with mild bitterness with the strawberries at the forefront, but well executed and kind of unique. Well worth the try, even if this wouldn't be a go-to Badlands IPA.

Pours like a pale ale and leaves a slight lacing, this one almost no nose at all. I'm sniffing madly, but it's so very faint.
The taste is dry, with a strong wood accent, maybe seeds.
Not bad as usual from these guys, but not one of their better ones.
