Everyone knows the playbook on modern IPA. You take Citra & Mosaic hops, oats, and an english yeast strain and BAM! You’ve got yourself the prototypical hazy yoooooose monster that is NEIPA. That's what this beer is, straight out of the textbook on modern IPA.
Also a fun fact, we'd never made an IPA with just Citra and Mosaic before… until this beer.
We taste notes of tangerine, mandarin orange, papaya and tropical fruit. These hops are besties for the resties and it’s no accident they’re the “go to“ for the style. They work incredibly well together.

Textbook 2025 - single 16 ounce can from brewery packaged August 21, 2025.
Pours a dull milky pale cream yellow colour with two fingers of creamy white head. I prefer a different look in beer, but for what this is supposed to be it looks good….
Citrus aplenty on the nose - orange, tangerine, grapefruit - hints of tropical fruit, a brief whiff of garlic and just a bit of sweatiness.
Palate of unsweetened orange juice, grapefruit, some papaya - bright and a bit acidic (tart without being tart); a touch of sweaty leafy dankness - sweetness pops a bit as warms.
Medium full mouthfeel - a distinct prickly explosion on the tongue that somehow turns creamy - post swallow leaves a coating pithy bittersweetness.
Started as, okay this is good; finished with, that was great.

Can: Poured a hazy/cloudy yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy hoppy notes with some juicy floral hops undertones and some tropical hops notes and with a semi-dry finale. Taste is also a good mix of citrusy hoppy notes with some juicy floral hops undertones notes, some tropical hops notes and a semi-dry finale. Body is full for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable NEIPA with nice citrusy focus floral hops notes with nice creamy notes.

From Durand. Canned September 21, 2022. Served cold into a tulip.
Appearance - The typical super hazy pale, chalky yellow colored brew from Badlands. Two fingers of dense white head on top with good staying power.
Smell - Dank, weedy notes, some mango, grapefruit, with a subtle hint of sweaty gym socks.
Taste - Quite juicy, orange, garpefruit and mango most prominently, a little stone fruit in the background overlaid a weedy undercurrent. Wheat malt prominently featured as well. Bitterness is there at times, but reigned in. Very balanced.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and creamy, medium-full bodied with middling-light carbonation. Fairly juicy finish.
Overall - Textbook example of a NEIPA.

I mean, they're calling it textbook so I guess it should just taste like a pretty standard high end NEIPA featuring likely my 2 favourite hops - Citra & Mosaic. This is the better of their offerings last week compared to Liam, but then I'm no fan of Nelson Sauvin.

My first Covid-19 purchase from Badlands. Their set up makes it the safest way to get beer.
Textbook returns to the light yellow colour most of their brew is known for. The nose has hints of....flower? Not much else really. The texture is very creamy, nice, but the taste is somewhat underwhelming and difficult to pinpoint.
Again, not a bad one (being spoiled with Badlands, really....most of their stuff is vastly better than what you can find in a liquor or beer store) , but not near their upper echelon.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
