ELMO was born out of our dual hop program where we blend hops together in pairs looking for happy marriages. When we land on a blend we like, we go full portmanteau and try to jam the hop names together to make a new, single name that hopefully sounds like a real, audible word.
ELMO features a blend of (EL) Dorado and (MO)saic hops. It also happens to be the name of a lovable muppet character from Sesame Street; so that's fun.
We taste notes of distinct tangerine, pineapple candy, mixed tropical fruit and lingering pine.

Can: Poured a hazy/cloudy yellow color ale with a medium white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy hoppy notes with some juicy floral hops undertones and some tropical and spicy notes with a semi-dry finale. Taste is also a good mix of citrusy hoppy notes with some juicy floral hops undertones notes, some tropical notes with some spicy noyes and a semi-dry finale. Body is about full for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable NEIPA with nice tropical notes but less spicy hops notes would have been better.

Typically looking Badlands hazy, pale orange IPA with white, fluffy head. Inviting tangerine and sweet pineapple smells. Taste to match with some dankness and lasting pine finish. Quite nice. Very nice hop combination that transitions beautifully from sweet citrus to drier pine notes. Overall a step above for the Badlands crew.

If Elmo approves it has to be good. Back to Badlands and back to good beer. A fresh May 28/2021 batch poured into a Teku and offered grapefruit opaque pour with fine collar. EL dorado and MOasic hops blend here to offer a nose bouquet of tangerine dreams in a pine forest. First sip is delicious tropicals - very balanced, very smooth.

Elmo is great. Not as much the Sesame Street character: I am more partial to Bert, Ernie, The Count, Grover and even Zoe.
But the brew is a winner. Pours pale and murky with a head that remains with just enough lacing to make it attractive. The nose is a fantastic mix of tropical fruit and pine. The taste mirrors the nose perfectly and is lightly creamy in texture. Great feel. This is one of Badlands' best.
