Bad cat, off the table!
A collaboration for our 5th anniversary with our friends from Barncat Artisan Ales.
Brewed way back in 2021 and then laid to rest in Willet bourbon barrels for 16 months. This beer has matured beautifully with time. It was then given a hefty dose of vanilla (like $1.50/can ish heavy) and hazelnut.

In collaboration with Barncat, this is only Badlands' second stout as far as I can remember and they are/were both BBA. That's a win, right there. Their first, on their own, was great, though without carbonation so that left me wanting. This is carbonated.
It pours black, has a small, disappearing brown head. The nose smells of lovely vanilla, bourbon and hazelnut.
This is quite silky and very boozy. It has some bitterness (probably from the hazelnut) that is slightly disappointing. The vanilla is strong and I feel it could have been balanced with something better than is found in here. It is missing a full body.
Yet, this is still good (and gets better as it warms). I bought two cans at the time of Badlands' anniversary (they are long gone now, the beer, not the brewery) and I am not regretting getting two.

Can: Poured pitch-black color stout with a medium size brown foamy head with light retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of vanilla and bourbon notes with some sweet chocolate and fudge notes. Taste is also a mix of vanilla and bourbon notes with some sweet residual sugar notes and some fudge notes. Body is full with oily texture and good carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Solid pastry stout though I think vanilla could have been toned down a bit.
