A beer brewed with our friends from Barncat Artisan Ales for our sixth anniversary.
Every year since we opened, we have made beer with our good friends at Barncat Artisan Ales for our anniversary party. This will sadly be the sixth and final time we can do this, as they will be closing up shop later this month.
Barncat is one of our oldest friends in the industry and their closing will not only leave a gaping hole in our hearts, but the craft beer scene in Ontario in general. We’re going to miss drinking their beer dearly, but just as importantly, the inspiration they provided to Ontario beer.
We’re both excited and honored to be able to collaborate on one final recipe they had wanted to execute on at their own brewery, but didn’t have the time before wrapping up operations. It is a TIPA brewed with Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe, Riwaka, Nelson and Galaxy. Are those all the best, most intense IPA hops? Yes. Buckle up, this baby slaps!

This is another Coronaeus pick from his LIF box to me. This is my second of three Badlands beers that he sent, and based on the first one I had, I have very high hopes for this one. Let's crack it open and see what we're working with
Pours a hazy milky yellow with 3 fingers of pillowy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose packs a punch on this one, sweet and tropical but with a cutting bitterness. I'm picking up on aromas of peach rings, red grapefruit, orange juice, earthy hops, underripe mango, white pepper, weed, bready malt, and light papaya
The tropical intensity is traded for something sweeter in taste, but it is still quite enjoyable. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting bready malt, red grapefruit, caramel, dank weed, papaya, orange juice, white pepper, and light grass. The swallow brings notes of caramel, red grapefruit, orange zest, caramel, dank weed, overripe cantaloupe, earthy hops, and light mango
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry with just a touch of boozy heat
Oh yeah, this one is a winner. Absolutely incredible choice from Coronaeus!

Somewhat unbalanced but still quaffable. Lots more hops than malt, has a bit of a sharp finish, so it's consumed by long slips. A fun year, with devoted hop brewers.

This yearly collab between Badlands and Barncat Artisan Ales is sadly their last as Barncat is no longer.
So they packed 6 hops into their last co-creation.
Pours pale and the head soon disappears. The nose is of intense hoppiness, along with earth tones. As expected, this one is chewy as a TIPA should be. Mass hop mix, with various, mostly earth notes, but also some fruit of the slightly bitter variety. It leaves you with sticky lips.
Obviously a good beer, seeing the talent and effort of the creators and the mass of hop salad within. I would say get it, but it's all gone now.
