Copenhagen 4/10 2021. 44 cl can from Dinøl web-shop (dinol.dk). Apex's usual symmetric design in very dark army green and orange with a Rhino gobbling up the Earth balancing on top of the logo.
Pours opaque hazy, milky yellow with a medium-sized white head. A bit bubbly. Settles as thin, flimsy layer of foam barely covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet odor of tropical fruits mingling with a slightly acerbic citric scent. Sweet pineapple and peach. Whiff of fermentation. Grape fruit and pine.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is fairly intense with a medium strong sweetness followed and balanced by a medium strong citric bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a sweet undercurrent. Finish is dry.
Not exactly nuclear but well balanced with a dry citric vibe.

Pours a hazy, bright orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/tropical/berry hops, with notes of grapefruit, passion fruit and blueberry, as well as some distinct herbal and earthy accents. Taste is a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, herbal, earthy, slightly resinous hops, with citrus and lighter tropical and berry notes of grapefruit, orange, passion fruit, pineapple, blueberry and strawberry as well as a distinct, musty earthiness and hints of mint and pine also coming through. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, passion fruit, mint and earthiness lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
The unusual hop varieties used here make for quite a unique flavor profile that's quite earthy and herbal, with some berries coming through as well. It's probably the Zappa hops which are responsible for that herbal, quite earthy, musty, almost woody character here, while Belma and Mosaic bring those berry notes to the table. While this kind of flavor profile is not going to be for everyone, I can quite enjoy it personally and applaud Apex for trying something a bit different. I also think that it's well-balanced with those more unusual notes being kept in check nicely enough by some more typical, juicy citrus and tropical notes, while the beer finishes with a nice, slightly resinous bitterness. Much better and more interesting than the last beer I had by Apex just yesterday, with a good body and mouthfeel as well.
