The Shipwreck Black Lager from Long Beach brewing (NY). A refrigerator chilled half quart can was poured into a simple glass. The beer has a nice dark body topped by a firm tan foam. Good flavor with a spectrum of dark malts and a background bitter hoppiness. There's a lot to like in this beer local brewery. It might be even better served a little warmer.

Look: Pours a deep black color with a two finger, beige head of foam. Moderate lacing and head retention.
Aroma: Coffee grinds, ashy notes for wood, a touch of bitter dark chocolate / cocoa powder.
Taste: Bitter and dry. Slight pine note off the bat, immediately followed by flavors of burnt toast (in a pleasant way) which turn savory and malty; transitioning into notes of bittersweet chocolate with hints of toasted hazelnuts and almonds.
Feel: Medium body and texture with a good degree of creaminess while still being thirst quenching and sessionable.
Overall: Easy drinking schwarzbier. Great if you're looking for something bitter, chocolaty and refreshing. Very thirst quenching. You could throw a few cans of this back with absolutely no problem.

Pitch black into a Willi Becher glass, kicked up a few fingers of dark, fluffy tan foam... Rich and smooth and sweet and creamy, little bit of bitterness and char to balance it out with some dryness - very satisfying without being too filling...
