L- Superfially black, though with my halogen torch held behind I can see it's an ultra-dark ruby-red. Pours clear, with a fleeting mid-tan head. Per expectations, the surface tension of a 10% beer doesn't retain foam at all well.
S- There is a deep roasty, slightly smokey side here, and could that be a coffee note too?
T- It follows the smell^. More sort of timber-log/mild-charring than outright prominent smoke notes. It has richness to it, but it's stops well short of any risk of straying into sweetness - I'm pleased to say.
F- Ultra-rounded and rich-feeling too. But that is balanced by a big foundation of ABV% plus a pungent flavour. I think this would be a very nice slow-sippin' beer in winter.
O- I like it, it's something a bit different. For a BIG proposition it's arguably somewhat subtle, the ABV% does not in any way come thumping it's way through on your palate. It has balance, and that's good brewing.
The can lable is one of the more understated I've seen recently too. I'm quite relishing this beer and would happily enjoy it again, esp. during colder months, and maybe as something for Xmas or special occasions.
