Edmund's Oast "Nameless City"
on tap at the brewery on 12/21/14
12 oz. glass for $5
Listed on the menu at 8% abv.
Notes: Brown-black body beneath a tan head. Average head retention and lacing. Sweet grainy malt, cocoa, fruit (apple, apricot/peach, raisin), banana phenol, brown sugar, spice, bittersweet chocolate, roast. Medium-full in body with a gently bristling carbonation that tickles the tongue. The median bitterness is centered and anchors it without infringing. Rich, but not overtly rich. Focused, and rounded. Remarkably drinkable.

On tap at the brew pub (which is actually neither a brewery nor a pub, but I won't hold that against them)
12oz pour into a tulip
A: black with less than half finger of light tan head , decent retention and a bit of lacing
S: lots of licorice/anise; cocoa and roasted malt
T: roasted malt and cocoa are the predominant flavors, I also get licorice, and earthy herbaceous notes
M: full bodied but not thick, mod carbonation, no hint of ABV, drinkability is good
O:very well done, and dangerously drinkable for the ABV

A: Had this beer on-tap, poured into a tulip glass, at Edmund's Oast. Had a black color and a thick consistency. There was an inch of foamy, tan-colored, fairly long-lasting head. Pretty good lacing.
S: A somewhat muted, though still present, aroma of fruit, malt, and chocolate.
T: Tasted of light chocolate notes, apricot, malt, a hint of yeast, and some dark fruit thrown in as well. A robust, but not obnoxious flavor. Focused, flavorful, and interesting.
M: A nice amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium- to heavy-bodied.
O: Nameless City doesn't necessarily conform to the strictures of the style, but it is well made and surprisingly easy to drink.
