On tap in a bountiful snifter glass.

Dark mahogany color, opaque even when held up to the natural light. Natural tan colored cap, 1-plus F. Minimal lacing spots.

Rich cocoa and vanilla blend aroma. The rich toasted malt soaks it up.

Chocolate and vanilla flavors come through with sweetness.

It’s light and thin but smooth.

Pretty good as light lactose stouts go.

16oz can poured into a Willi Becher glass.

The beer pours nearly black pour with ruby highlights, and about three fingers worth of tan/khaki head that recedes slowly leaving behind a small amount of lacing.

The aroma is roasted malts and coconut, with notes of chocolate, vanilla and a hint of char.

The flavor is roasted malts, coconut, and chocolate, with notes of vanilla, char, and coffee. Medium bodied, and mildly carbonated with a nice creaminess from the lactose

Overall, this is a nice, slightly sweet, easy drinking stout

Pours clear, dark brown in color with one inch head. Taste is toasted coconut, chocolate, fruit puree, and vanilla coke. Light bodied, moderate carbonation, slightly sweet. There is a lot going on here...a lot...with light body and high carbonation, it tastes like experimental soda. Not awful but just cannot detect beer. To its credit, I have not ever had a beer taste like this.

This one is very dark brown in the glass, resembling black walnut as it's poured. Fine specks of sediment slowly settle as one half inch of light khaki head forms a fine froth above. The head quickly retreats to a ring and surface fog. A thin, viscous film causes scattered spots of lace to float about in a Klokke Roeland snifter. It has a mahogany halo.

Pleasant roasted malt greets the nose with light coconut and vanilla following. Based on the label, there are no surprises here. Warmth brings out a light scent of rum.

This one tastes remarkably similar to a Rum and Coke. This is not an unpleasant sensation, however, it is far from what was expected. The roasted malt is clearly secondary and there is no real sense of chocolate. Bitterness is mild with light lactose on the fringes. The finish is modest and prolonged with vanilla.

The alcohol is well above expectations, and the carbonation is modest and prickly. It has a light body and watery texture.

This is a decent beer that one might consider to be a sessionable Pastry Stout, if that's a thing. Generally speaking, while enjoyable, this one was a one and done, but a nice reward after pruning the apple tree.

16 oz can from the Wall of Beer in Clemson SC ($3.39).

Appearance. Poured near black with an extremely short-lived beige head.

Fortunately, it feels, smells and tastes better than it looks. Obvious, but not too strong, notes of vanilla, cacao nibs and coconut join a solid malt base. The aroma is surprisingly strong and not harmonious but the flavor is more mellow and nicely harmonious. It's also appropriately sweet.

Overall. Some flaws but certainly worth seeking out for the coconut-chocolate-vanilla dark bread flavor.

picked up randomly, wasn't quite sure what to expect.

A: a dark appearance with a light head.

A: the smell is a faint chocolate/vanilla. smells very much like a dark chocolate bar to me.

T: for an odd comparison, it feels very similar to cocoa puffs. the cacao gives a slightly chocolatey flavor, but not a sweet one. think more of a dark chocolate like described prior.

F: somewhat light. very easy to down with no weird aftertaste.

overall: it's fun. it feels so similar to a chocolate cereal in milk as a kid. gives a lot of nostalgia from that alone. i appreciate the chocolate tasting more on the bitter side as opposed to sweet. 4.25

Pours somewhat dark and clear, minimal head. Aroma is faint chocolate and coconut. Flavor is light chocolate with a faint hint of coconut and vanilla. Lactose adds to a creamy texture. Carbonation works well. Overall a tasty, sessionable pastry stout.
