Picked up a can while volunteering at the Eighth State festival on 7-27-24. Can coding on bottom of can but no canning date but presumably in July 2024 based on Untappd check-ins; consumed 10-19-24.
Beer poured a purplish brown with a very nice off-white head.
Nose is dark fruit forward presumably from the blackberry addition. Getting very subtle toffee notes from the base barleywine.
Taste is a large malt base that has an undertone of toffee, first sips i had a puckering reaction. Blackberry dominates giving this a wine-beer-cocktail colab. Finishes puckering but not sweet.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty smooth.
Overall, this one is a head scratcher as you cannot peg it to a style. I view it almost as an after-dinner aperitif. It is an acquired taste in which my palate settled on the flavor about 4 oz in. Nice innovation by the EOBC team!
