Poured from a growler into a shaker pint, the beer is an extremely dark, blackish coloring with brown highlights under light and a tall, frothy, foamy, dark tan head that starts around an inch and a half and quickly settles into a filmy coating. Aromas of heavy roast, chocolate, molasses, coffee, and woody notes. Very heavy and rich, but balanced. Some cream notes on the nose, too. Flavors are heavily roast forward, with a blast of chocolate and coffee to follow. Masterfully blended, with a sweet and bitter balance that makes this very drinkable. Hints of charred oak, cream, and rich molasses, with a subtle warmth at the end. Thin, smooth bodied with a subtle dryness from the bitter notes. The finish is dry, with a roast and sweet linger. Very easy to drink, and a good representation of the style. Solid beer!
