this is a really solid american take on a belgian classic. the best feature if by far the yeast, as it should b in a beer like this, but its really quite different from anything i have had from belgium or am familiar with at all really. it has an almost candy-like gummy bear sort of aroma to it, with a little herbaceous spice and even a slight out of the blue hint of bretty fruity mango funkiness to it, really complex and awesome, especially over the cleaner fluffy malt body, simple for the style which really lets the yeast shine. pear and honey notes in the flavor, lots of fruit esters and some residual sugars, but also that slight funk here that i have never realy experienced in the style before, its a great little twist. upbeat carbonation too, and lots of body, sweet but not too sweet, wintery feeling, warming, strong, sturdy. overall a great american example of the style, a little different than many, but thats what makes it a winner for me. havent had nearly enough beer from these guys...
