This isn't exactly a Belgian Dark Ale, but it's certainly not a Flanders Red and there isn't a better classification.
A: Pours from the growler a nice reddish brown color, but with very little head that disappears almost immediately.
S: Musty earth notes typical of a Belgian yeast, a bit of clove and a faint hint of bubblegum.
T: Slight sourness up front with a surprisingly dry finish for a Belgian. Good continental hop balance at the end. Flavors of clove mix with the faint notes of raisin, pepper and caramel.
M: Crisp and tart up front, dry on the finish. The yeast gives a characteristically creamy mouthfeel common with Belgian ales.
D: The sour bite keeps this one light and crisp enough to overcome some of the facets of many Belgian ales that make them a bit too heavy. The moderate alcohol content also helps improve the score.
