Pre-filled growler with shrink-wrap around the neck. The beer pours out a dark brown with hints of red. Unfortunately, it is completely flat. Not a hint of a bubble to be found. I'll ding the mouthfeel for that.
This one was aged in JD barrels and there is a definite whiskey note on the nose. Quite a bit of oak and vanilla.
Taste is slightly sour, probably from the oak aging. A bit of earthy smokiness comes through. Vanilla notes also linger a bit on the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is sorely disappointing. Not a bubble to be found, and unlike some stronger beers, this one doesn't drink like sherry. I think this had promise, and may have been better in the past, but it is quite the disappointment now, particularly since i paid $30 for the growler.
