Absurdity is a beautiful contradiction. Mad science! We’ve taken our deceptively drinkable Belgian Tripel and crossed it with a bold American IPA. The result is a smooth, refreshing golden beer with big citrusy flavors of tangerine and grapefruit, subtle complexities of clove, bubble gum, and smarties candies, and a drying finish. Less bitter than most IPAs; more refreshing than most Belgians. Absurdly good. Let it warm to taste the full complexity.

Pours clear golden with a sudsy film for a head.
Smells of fresh grassy malts with citrus and coriander notes.
Grassy malt flavor with coriander and candi sugar sweetness.
Full bodied with tingly carbonation on the roof of the mouth.
A very passable attempt at a Belgian style that falls a little short of the real deal or some of the top shelf American attempts. Worth a try but Front Street has better offerings.

A - Gold/Orange. Beautiful appearance. Literally no lacings though.
S - There were marginal amounts of sweet malt aroma/yeastiness that you would find in a belgian. No hops to speak of. Pretty disappointing. There really isn't a whole lot of smell here.
T - Absurdly boring. Almost tasted like a Belgian Tripel - notes of coriander and citrus. Very sweet. In no way is this an IPA. Its not bitter at all. I thought I caught a hint of hops at the end, maybe it was wishful thinking.
M - Over carbonated and light bodied.
O- The name was incredibly misleading. Should be advertised as a Tripel. Will not be revisiting this "Belgian IPA".

Growler poured into an Allagash glass on 9/17/12
Split with PDXHops
Lazy, deep amber with golden highlights. I was able to muster a one and a half finger head with a direct pour to the center of the glass. It doesn't last long, with only a island of bubbles resting on top. Lace is pretty good though.
The aroma is actually pretty well integrated. Crisp, mildly tart apple, grapefruit, orange peel, sweet cracker, hints of sugar cookie and some bread. Grassy undertones. The alcohol is concealed, keeping things clean.
Huh, this actually tastes pretty good; it's perhaps more Tripel than IPA. It starts off with a lasting peppery note, mingling with a grassy notion. From there, light fruit and citrus flavors come to prominence - apple, orange and lemon. The malts seem slick, mixed with alcohol; kind of like a boozy biscuit.
The feel is a slick, grainy, medium full type of thing. Carbonation is on the low side and matches up well with the overall feel. Yeasty residuals linger.
Overall, this one is quite enjoyable. I didn't have the highest expectations but I could easily drink this from time to time.
