A big, two-inch, dirty white head of tight froth forms in a Strangebird IIPA glass. The IPA ranges from pale, glowing yellowish orange to dark, opaque mango. Sticky lace forms in patches.
Mandarin oranges are obvious, as it light pine resin. Peach is noticeable in the middle, while some cut grass comes out with warmth.
The flavor is rather mild, with grassy notes up front and neutral bitterness offset by sweetness. Caramel malt is fairly strong, while the finish is earthy and lingering. That earthiness grows and is welcome as it warms.
The body is full, while the texture is soft and smooth like Jersey cotton. While the alcohol is below expectations, it is still quite noticeable. There is a mild, metallic astringency and the sensation of numbing gums.
In general, I think dry hopping tends to amplify earthiness. This one is more similar to a hazy IPA as labeled, than a NEIPA as listed on Beer Advocate. To be more specific, this is more like a hazy English IPA. Regardless, I enjoyed it.
