Pint on draught at the brewery. Served in a plastic cup (due to COVID 19 restrictions). It pours a very dark cola color - approaching mahogany - with a creamy, light mocha-colored had and thin film of lacing. It has quite an aroma: roasty malt, burnt char, tobacco smoke, and earthy peat. The taste opens dry and earthy with peat and smoky peat and char. As it slowly warms there are also notes of caramel, tangy apple, and raisin. The brewer has covered all of the expected tastes but unlike many Scotch Ales I've tasted it's overwhelmingly dry with more than a hint of bitterness at the finish. It has a moderate mouth feel with pleasant carbonation. This batch is advertised to be only 5% ABV and it's readily drinkable. Overall, Scotch Bonnet is very nicely done. It has lots of flavor but stays true to the style without any unnecessary sweetness. I salute any brewery that offers a Wee Heavy regularly and Bucket Brigade should be proud of this offering.
