Pint pour on draught at the brewery. When I saw it I assumed it was a Brown Ale but the brewery calls it an IPA. It's a dark cola with a thin, ecru cap and soapy lacing. The smell is strongly earthy and malty. I didn't smell the molasses at first but it emerged as the ale warmed. The taste follows: lots of roasty, bitter char but the molasses provides nice compensating sweetness. There are also notes of cola, which is a bit off-putting. The mouth feel is rather thin but the 7.5% ABV gives it good substance. Overall, Sweet Baby Molasses is a rather weird ale insofar as it claims to be an IPA but it's more like a Brown Ale. It's a good concept.
