Melanie Imperial Stout at 11.3abv pours extremely viscous, as expected. It is blacker than black with a brown foamy head. Little bubbles are visible and active. I caught the nose right off the pour. Resiny. Dates and plum. Think deep violet. Notes of stonefruit. Cocoa powder is strong, definitely boozy. A roastiness of malt all around. Wow. Tastes of raisin chcolate pudding. Phenomenally rich and sweet as molasses, with less brown sugar. It is creamy and bold, lowly carbonated. There is a wonderful foretaste of milk chcolate that is subdued by plumy stonefruit. One takeaway is the boozy aftertaste of coughsyrup, but at this strength, it is virtually unavoidable.

16 oz can received in an LIF associated with BIF12.5 from @bbthunderbolt. Collaboration with Beach cat

Canned on 11/23/20 poured into a snifter . Deep cola brown, brown motor oil liquid resulting in a one finger bubbly tan head that had moderate retention , settled to a solid layer and strong ring

The aroma is roast malt, coffee, licorice scents

Taste is roast malts, hint of coffee , no acrid burn on the roast

Light mouthfeel for a stout but enjoyable nonetheless . Medium sudsing. Roast taste lingers but doesn’t bite. No bitterness and smooth.Gentle roast taste lingers. An 11% abv that is well hidden

Good beer, thanks @bbthunderbolt

16oz can (canned on 11/23/20) poured into 14oz teku. Poured the expected solid black color with less than 1/2 inch of tan head that had moderate retention and very light lacing.

The aroma was the anticipated malt scents, with a pleasant, but not overwhelming, amount of roast.

On the tongue, there was some licorice that wasn't in the nose, plus some alcohol burn.

The body was a bit thinner than is usual for the style, the roast/licorice lingered at the back, and there was a medium finish.

Drinkability was good, especially given the ABV.

Overall, a solid brew, worth a shot if you see it.
