Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a lightly hazy, medium to dark brownish orange with a fizzy half finger head that settles into a fine, thick white cap with great retention and thick, slippery lacing. Aroma of spicy, bready malt, Belgian yeast, dark dried fruit. Flavor is lightly bready malt, Belgian yeast, dried plums and dates, raisins. Finishes with dark fruit and a light, odd vegetal note that I'm familiar with from gluten free beers (not sure which alternate base malt gives this taste. Medium bodied with light creaminess. The pour was a bit fizzy, but the finished head was attractive and persistent. The flavor is spot-on Belgian, although the malt base, as expected tasted just a bit unusual. The overall flavor is closer to a slightly thin dubbel, and remarkably faithful. I'd recognize the alternative malt base from others made gluten free, but in this case that flavor occurs mostly in the finish. Although I'd go for the real thing in this case, if I needed gluten free, this would be a revelation. Possibly the most authentic tasting gluten free I've had. It's good enough and tasty enough I'm going to try their stout and IPA when I get a chance. Good job.
