16oz tallboy can purchased at Huckleberry's, in Spokane, WA, for $4.79. No date on the can, just an inky looking smear on the side of the can near the bottom. EDIT: Small stamp near the top of the can shows it was canned on March 11, 2024.
Poured into the glass, this was a clear golden color, initially, that became fairly chill hazed after it sat in the glass for a few minutes. Big, creamy looking off-white head. Said head dropped fairly fast from its initial size, but didn't completely die away for some time. When held up to the light, some floaties could be seen towards the bottom of the glass.
Soft, bready, malty aroma. No discernable hop character.
Very malt forward in flavor. There's no trace of even the slightest bit of hop bitterness in the flavor.
Medium bodied, with a soft and yet flabby mouth feel.
This is nothing terrible, but that's pretty much the best thing you can say about it. There was no date on the can, so I suspect it might be a little bit aged at this point. Certainly, that would account for the floaties. It might also account for the fact that despite it being listed as being hopped with Saaz hops on untapped, and on the can itself saying Magnum and Hallertau Blanc hops were what was used, there is absolutely no hop character or flavor to be found. Pity. A nice Kolsch after work on this reasonably warm day would have been pleasant. EDIT: Having located the date stamp, I've seen that it's not particularly old in the grand scheme of things. Apparently it just wasn't very good in the first place. Score adjusted accordingly.
