Scoop is an Imperial Black Icecream IPA. Based on the theme of mint choc chip ice creams, we added cacao nibs and vanilla to a dark Milkshake IPA base before dry hopping with Fuggles, Polaris and Citra hops and steeping peppermint tea from our friends at Atkinsons of Lancaster.

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a medium, creamy, lasting head, leaving some thick lacing on the inside of the glass as it slowly recedes. Really does smell just like After Eights, with some lightly roasted, caramelly malt and distinct milk chocolate and peppermint notes, with just a hint of vanilla as well. Taste is a great balance of lighlty roasted, caramel malt and mildly fruity and resinous hops, with some citrus and pine accents, but dominated by the milk chocolate and peppermint notes, with just a hint of vanilla as well. Finishes rather sweet, with some milk chocolate, peppermint and citrus accents lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
While I'm really not a huge fan of milkshake/pastry beers at all, I bought this because it's a Black MIlkshake IPA and while it is a bit too sweet for my personal taste, I did enjoy it well enough for that quite distinct After Eight feel it's got to it. There are some light hints of a Black IPA to this, with some lightly roasted malt and mild citrus, piney hops, but the pastry aspect really is a lot more obvious here, with those sweet chocolate and lighter vanilla and lactose notes being quite distinct, although the peppermint really provides a very good balance here that counters that sweetness nicely. Overall, I think this makes for an interesting cross between a Black and Milkshake IPA that is very well-balanced for what it is, despite being a bit too sweet for my personal taste.
