L- Inky black, even a halogen torch held on the back of the glass fails to get light through. Pours with a quite deep tan creamy looking 3mm foam head.
S- Woah! MEGA mega cocoa! So presumably they've added cocoa beans to this (we'll see later when I read the can).
T- Ditto above re: cocoa. Then brief serious puddingy richness, then a liquor/ABV% zing on my palate, then a dryer cocoa (+coffee?) flourish into the finish - It's got a lot going on!
F- Rich, puddingy (tiramasu?), deep, pungent, yet overall considering all the competing drama it's well balanced.
O- I don't get orange at all but the cocoa is absolutely vast; surely the most cocoa-ish, and then some, beers I've ever had. Considering it's a thumping 12% it's pretty understated for that (nice work). I get pleasant zing across my palate but zero burn on the way down.
Different and enjoyable to try. Probably a bit OTT/out there to buy again. It's a shame the orange didn't seem to show itself, but that happened to me with another 'choco/orange stout'. Mercifully it seems to remain 'rich', yet does not stray over towards being sweet, or overtly sweet as can happen with beers of this style/ABV.
440ml Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a DIY multi-pick consignment to London. BB: 1/12/2021
Now I'll read the ingredients: Barley, oats, wheat [the 3 grains seem common these days in this style/ABV%], Mandarina Bavaria hops, oranges, cocoa nibs, vanilla.'
