look: one finger tan coloured head which quickly dissipates, beer is vantablack, no light bleeding through at all.
smell: big and boozy, lot of dark fruit, fig, prune, raisin, black bread, kvas, smokey, toast, toffee, vanilla, whiskey and spiced rum, inviting.
taste: big, but not as big as you’d maybe expect, again lots of dark fruit, raisin especially, nicely sweet, roasty toasty flavours, kvas, black bread, vanilla, big bitterness on the finish, quite boozy, smokey malt flavours linger on the finish.
feel: full bodied, light carbonation, motor oil thickness, lots of lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue and plenty of alcohol warming, heavy going.
overall: a big 14% porter, on the cusp of being very good indeed, but it is still pretty good alright.
