Our head brewer, Mat has a passion for Belgian style beers and One in Five Thousand is a complex and slightly spiced variation on the traditional Belgian quad style. This beer was initially brewed for our barrel project, however whilst tasting the base beer, we enjoyed it so much that we're giving you the opportunity to try a small amount pre-barrel.
This full bodied quad fills the mouth with flavours of toffee, dried fruits, plums and warms the very cockles of your heart. The name and artwork are reference to the fact that only one in five thousand clovers have four 'quad' leaves.

Pours a clear, dark coppery coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of bready, caramel malt, brown sugar and hints of dark fruit, with notes of fig and plum. Taste is a decent balance of bready, caramel malt, brown sugar, wild honey and dark fruit, with notes of fig and plum. Finishes with a medium sweetness and some brown suagr and dark fruit lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with amedium body and carbonation.
I've really enjoyed a lot of beers from Wander Beyond, but am starting to think that they only do fruited, sour beers really well. This Quadrupel honestly completely lacks the richness, complexity and estery yeast notes that are expected of the style, being too sweet and not greatly balanced. Despite some dark fruit from the malts, there's no estery fruit or spice to this at all, with a pretty lacklustre body and mouthfeel as well.
