Seen soaring around the Kitty Hawk Lifesaving Station, the Black Pelican was a beacon of hope to wary sailors. If a threatening storm ever arose, these men knew they could depend on this winged savior to guide them to safety, even in the most unbridled conditions.
In honor of the Black Pelican, we crafted this Maple Porter. Brewed with Pale Ale Malt, Flaked and Toasted Oats, Vanilla and Lactose – along with a hearty addition of 100% pure maple syrup – this beer will keep you content indoors, so you don’t have to challenge the wrath of the sea and find safety behind the wing the Black Pelican.

Pours pretty dang black nothing around the edges even when held to the light , big stout like blackness. Thumb sized dark tan head falls to ring bubbles descent lace left behind.
Aroma is sweet chocolate, lots of caramel, maple and vanilla notes . Defiantly a maple porter.
Taste is sweet lactose noticeable, caramel and maple sweet all around with some good vanilla notes lingering in the finish with a big of earthy notes. Pretty much what it advertises without complexity.
Mouthfeel is medium smooth carbonation.
Overall not bad not awe inspiring either.

From the bottom edge of the can: "20302"
Appearance: It is a black bodied beer with a large khaki head. The head has a fizzy and creamy texture to it as the bubbles form and dissipate. The head fades out pretty quickly leaving a thin layer in the glass. No lacing.
Aroma: It smells like a maple liqueur with notes of vanilla and chocolate.
Taste: Up front there are notes of chocolate and maple. Towards the middle of the mouth there is a bit of a smokey, roasted malt flavor which is nice. The maple flavor gets pushed away pretty quickly when the heavily kilned malts take over. Char towards the back of the mouth with a mellow charred aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: It feels pretty light and thin for a Porter. Low malt bitterness but present.
Overall: The can states that this is a "MAPLE PORTER" and the maple character is in both the aroma and flavor. Unfortunately it gets lost pretty quickly when drinking the beer. The texture of the beer also feels really thin. As a whole it isn't a bad beer but it isn't one I would buy again. It isn't one I'd readily recommend.
