Canned 6/21/22

L: Hazy gold body. One finger white head with excellent retention.

S: Papaya, citrus, mango

T: Grapefruit and tropical fruit up front. Finishes with a nice citrus zest bitterness. I can’t tell this is a NA and would believe it were a session IPA in a blind taste test.

F: Good body— medium-light with oily hops and a dry finish

O: Excellent NA. Plus, 100% of profits go to cancer research.

Pours a fair frothy 1.5 finger semi rich head with moderate retention, a bit of soapy lacing, very hazy med gold color

Nose big hops, fresh citrus and Cascadian like fresh hops, orange zest, a bit of grapefruit, little dank and spicy as well, light malt

Taste brings more hops, a bit grassy fresh hop but mostly citrus and fruit, soft tangerine, lemon/lime zest, touch of grapefruit, a little mild generic tropical, a bit of soft malt underneath, cracker/cereal note, fair bitterness dry finish with a med-high spicy hop bitterness, very West-coast IPA like

Mouth is med to lighter bod, med-higher frothy carb

Overall for an N/A beer this is quite nice, very much west coast IPA with good bitterness, fresh citrus and fruity hops with some spicy bitterness on the finish, a bit of malt underneath, quite enjoyable actually

Pours a thick hazy deep golden yellow. Completely opaque. High carbonation. Very strong head pillowing. Have to make a careful and slow direct pour or else this will foam over. Builds to a very thick pillow of a head. Dissipates slowly to a thick foam ring with very strong excellent lacing. Varied head cracks and open/close bubbles of various sizes. Just looks gorgeous. Dead on point for a hazy IPA.

Smells of papaya, mango, orange juice, Tang, sweet bread, and star fruit. Very well aromatically. Lots of scent to be had.

Mouth feel is thick. Refreshing after coating left on the tongue and mouth. Good "chew" to the mouthfeel.

On the front palette, lots of mango, guava, star fruit, and bitter grapefruit notes. Mid-palette is lots of old school grape fruit and sour lemon notes. Really good. A little malt backbone with some wheat and lemon grass. Back palette is lots of toasty barley notes, more bitter grapefruit and orange rind. Lots of star fruit and papaya. A bit of mango. Comes of like a hybrid of old school IPA with lots of bitter pine notes when very cold, but as it warms up you get more tropical notes. At near room temperature it's lots of wheat muffins with sugar and a good amount of coriander. Very complex and evolving flavors. Somewhere in there is that tropical hazy IPA, but it bookended by that old school West Coast IPA taste. Very crushable though.

Lingering aftertaste of orange juice, mango, pine needles, and corn muffins. Crisp, but the heavier mouthfeel leaves a refreshing coating on the tongue nevertheless.

Honestly if you told me this was one of those new 4.5% ABV session hazy IPAs I would believe you in a blind taste test. It holds up to any of those. While it may not be able to stand with the bigger tropical IPAs (think Heady Topper or Sip of Sunshine) this still truly excellent for a non-alcoholic IPA.

4 out of 5. Very good. Recommended.

pours darkish gold into copper brown. no head. smells pretty hoppy but no real bitterness so to speak. almost a spent malt character there. tastes pretty good. nails the bitter. has some mild citrus and pine resiny flavor, no juicebomb though. feels about as right as a NA beer can can. Suds up the tongue like a real IPA. Overall another winner from Athletic. Will buy more.
