This takes me back to my childhood days watching the TV series "Are you afraid of the dark".
Appearance - Pours a hazelnut brown with four fingers of frothy mocha tan head.
Smell - earthy, leafy, and floral hops, roasted malts, cocoa, hint of coffee bean, nuttiness, and earthy yeast.
Taste - earthy, leafy, and floral hops upfront. The roasted malts, cocoa, and hint of coffee bean come through next. The nutty characteristics and earthy yeast round out the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes roasty with a slight bite from the hops.
Overall - A well rounded black IPA that delivers on the roasted malts and cocoa front. I wish the hops just presented themselves a touch more thus allowing it this brew to be a standout in this category. Otherwise, an engageable brew.
