Homeward Bound Blonde fills my glass a pale, clear straw colored beer. The head is dense, off white, and shows signs of good retention.
At first blush, Homeward Bound smells sweet and breadlike. It's that steaming loaf of bread, fresh out of the oven. The aromas are also delicately floral with hints of honey, earth, and granny smith apples coming through in the center. The finish is a brief hint of peppery, European hops.
On the tongue, Homeward Bound is smooth, crisp, and delicate. Mouthfeel starts off rounded with an up front honeyed sweetness combined with fresh grains. Honey leads through into what tastes to me like bright, brassy, granny smith apple. Things dry out a little as we move into the finish, giving a crisp, bitter finish.
Homeward Bound is really enjoyable. It's crisp and refreshing, with just enough dryness in the finish to balance out the initial flavors. And, I think the honey flavors up front combined with the granny smith apple towards the middle give this blonde ale a very enjoyable, refreshing character.
