A- Pours a rich chocolatey deep brown color with a caramel hued, very dense head of foam, starting about two full fingers thick and settling down to a generous layer over top the liquid. I would think that the carbonation will be mild based upon how creamy the head appears, and as for the lacing, well it is somewhat clinging to the inside of my glass, but does a reasonably fast slide back down into the brew....overall this is a fairly standard looking stout, but it has basically everything I look for!
S- I get a distinctly heavy cocoa infused dark chocolate, alongside dark chocolate liqueur, muted charred barley malts, such as chocolate and black, creamed fresh dark roast coffee, tinges of burnt almond nuttiness, and the finish is a blend of vanilla bean and piney clean hop bitterness/dryness.
T- Not as full flavored overall as the aroma suggested in my opinion, however, there are definite notes of chocolate, both dark and milk, chocolate creme truffle, vanilla bean, creamy coffee, slight molasses earthy sweetness, and more traditional stout like soil like charred malt. There is a muted bitter hop finish to the stout as well....its nice!
M/O- This is thinner in body than I would like my stout to be, but its not an off putting feature. As I thought, the carbonation is relatively soft and velvety, allowing the flavors to really shine through.....the only things I find that could really use some improvement on are this.....its fresh....I'd like a little more depth, and I'm not the biggest fan of the bitterness of the hops on the finish....this should be refined somewhat, but at the same time, as I mentioned before, it has a nice flavor.....just a little rough around the edges. I'd like to try this on tap at some point......cheers!
