Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear reddish-mahogany color with a small head of off-white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a touch of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big of a roasted malt and notes of caramel and toffee. Along with these, comes some lighter aromas of coffee and crème and a little bit of a nuttiness.
Taste- The taste begins with a malty and bready flavor of toasted breadcrust and some toasted dough. At the same time there is a decent showing of toffee and a bit of molasses, along with notes of a light nut and earth. As the taste advances the sweetness increases a touch, at the expense of some of the roast, in the end leaving one with a smooth and slightly sweeter taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is creamy and smooth with a more moderate carbonation level.
Overall – A pretty nice Irish red. I think I would enjoy this one during football sessioning on a cooler day. Certainly worth a try.
