Pours a frothy bubbly almost 1 finger off-white head with good retention, fair lacing, clear auburn to almost ruby color
Nose sweet candy aromas, a bit of caramel toffee, more like candied apple, big toasted biscuity Vienna like malt character, sweet bread crust, light earthy spicy hop, light fruity esters, a bit of smooth perfumey alcohol and spice phenols
Taste brings more sweet malts, biscuity toffee, a bit of caramel, touch nutty, more candied apple and loads of that biscuity toasted bread crust, sweet bread, but only mildly sweet overall, into more smooth perfumey alcohol, with a bit of spicy phenols, mild fruity esters, again that candied apple late, light earthy spicy hop and light bitterness, a bit yeasty late, mild sticky sweet finish
Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, fair carb, light warming smooth alcohol
Overall not bad, not much complexity and doesn't have the great rich depth I want in an English barleywine, but decent nonetheless
