Blind-tasted except for the beer's name, ABV% and brewery/country...
L- Ink black, no light gets through it, pours with a fat 2.5CM creamy looking dark-tan head that's holding astonishingly well for a high ABV% beer. Forms major lacing on the way down.
S- I could smell it on the pour, chocolate milk ie lactose+cocoa. A good distance from beer-like beer.
T- Bvbvbrrr!... I involuntarily shudder, WTH was this aged in!? I just got an absolute BLAST of liquor aspect there. Pays me for making this my 1st sip of the day from a hefty brew. Is it rum? That might might sense rum+choco pair well. Yet it seems harder than rum, could it be something off-piste like acquavit or similar...?
F- 'It's big, very big, be prepared'. Pungent, notably rich yet the ABV% blast helps temper that.
O- Maybe like a heavily liquor doused whipped cream topped chocolate trifle that's been morphed into a beer. A massive statement beer. Best suited for slow-sipping in winter. Great for sharing, as 200ml of this is plenty to get the whole experience, in fact 100ml might be - it's far from shy. Some might say this is more statement than finesse/detail, so I expect this beer could seriously divide people.
Review1996/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! ==>'Made with chocolate + hazlenut that's kinda bueno'. Contains 11 kinds of malts. Three grains, two hops, vanilla, cocoa, lactose and 'natural flavourings' whatever that means.
440ml can BB: 02/07/2022 £5.80 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
