my first beer from these guys, i cant believe there is a brewery called rickety cricket, does that mean something other than the dude from always sunny? i sure hope so. in any event, this is a pretty nice little porter here, spiked with what appears to be high quality coffee, and quite drinkable. i like how forward the coffee is, especially in the aroma, well in front of the dark malts in here, which have a restrained bitterness to them, allowing the coffee to be the bass note in here, i think thats a great call. its also not acidic at all when i drink it for how coffee driven it is, good balance from the crystal malt in the middle of this, and with just a little finishing sweetness to keep it from being harsh or one dimensional. there is nice freshness to the coffee as well, which is easily appreciated here, and a pretty round and soft body overall. what it lacks in complexity it more than accounts for in quality, and i would be more than happy to put a few pints of this away at just about any time of day. good first impression here.
