Small beige head that settles to rim bubbles. Brief, slippery lace on the glass. Deep dark brown where no light passes.
First smell impression is from the high (11.1% abv) alcohol. Behind this are Cocoa Puffs, milk chocolate, and vanilla.
Strong vanilla up front—almost an entirely new beer category. Richer body enhanced by the lower carbonation. The alcohol is muted until the swallow where it warms the throat. There are milk chocolate notes and a stone fruit aftertaste. Overall, this is spectacular beer but it is missing many of the traditional Imperial Stout expectations. Yet, I would order this again to experience the complexity of the various flavors.
If you visit this brewery in Somerville, MA, make this the last beer you order. You will be thrilled with the experience.
