Drank on tap at Remnant Brewing, Somerville, MA
Served in a tulip
By chance, I stumbled across this Remnant/Trillium collaboration IPA on its New Year’s Eve debut at Remnant Brewing. Lucky me.
Cloudy straw yellow appearance. The liquid was topped by a frothy, half finger-tall, off-white crown that fell to a thin collar. Streaks of craggily lacing stuck along the glass and almost lasted until the drink’s end.
The aroma was outstanding. Super fruity and bold. Big tropical fruit presence. Mango and papaya were most apparent. Lots of ripe peach too. Juicy Fruit gum came to mind. Touch of dankness. Some white grape was also noticeable.
The flavor profile was fantastic as well. Tropical fruits again came through strongest. Big mango and papaya notes. White grape juice was also apparent. The beer was anchored by a nice pale malt/creamy oat blend. Lots of white grapefruit on the back end and the finish. Hint of lingering pithy, rind-like bitterness.
Excellent creamy, frothy mouthfeel. Full bodied for the style. The liquid contained a fine, fairly aggressive effervesce that fluffed up beautifully on the palate.
I have been impressed by nearly all the Remnant’s IPAs I have tried to date, but this Trillium collaboration really brought things to another level. In many ways it was reminiscent of Trillium’s Dialed In series, and that is certainly a good thing in my book. Hopefully beers like this will bring more attention to this somewhat under appreciated local brewery.
