Bought from the brewery in Black Diamond.
Pours out with a nice thick cream coloured head. Beer is a nice dark red mahogany. Looks great.
Aroma is very, very strong on the hazelnut. The chocolate is there somewhere in the back, but holy hell is it hazelnut. One can't help comparing this to a hazelnut flavoured coffee. Little else is going on in the aroma.
Taste is more of the same, heavy on hazelnut coffee flavours, and somehow not really delivering on the chocolate side of things. Mouthfeel is nice and creamy, and the alcohol is well masked. Can't taste any phenolic booziness. Again, like the aroma, tastes of hazelnut coffee. Pretty sweet finish, and little to no hoppy aftertaste.
Not sure how I feel about it. If you like hazelnut flavoured coffee, this might be up your alley. The 9.5% is really, really well masked, and the mouthfeel is great, but as a whole this just comes off as a little non-complex and just too much like a hazelnut coffee flavour. Did I mention they overdid it on the sweet hazelnut extract?
