16oz can purchased from the fridge as a single from a local beer bar/bottle shop for $3.99.
Look: Nice dark amber color with a rocky, tan-colored head. Clear. Some head retention.
Smell: Nice aromas of dark bread, caramel, subtle cocoa and spice, some fruitiness (grape or raisin character), and soft floral hops. Black licorice, clove, and coffee notes also.
Taste: It's tasty. This almost tastes like a weak dopplebock as it has a similar flavor profile. Up front, it has a nice maltiness that is not sweet with warm notes of cocoa, caramel, and coffee. The beer finishes very crisp, earthy, and mildly bitter. It doesn't take long for the hop bitterness to wash away and the lingering flavor left on the palate is a slightly spicy, dark bread flavor with a mild sweetness.
Feel: The mouthfeel is very clean and crisp. It has a nice softness to it. The beer is on the lighter side of medium bodied.
Overall: My first exposure to Ten7 Brewing. This is a pretty good beer. Very drinkable. Unfortunately, I'm not able to compare it to other Czech Amber Lagers as I haven't had any others and the style guide is still in development.
From the website:
Amber Lager - 5.6% - Our Czech Amber Lager was brewed with rye, biscuit and Pilsner malts and traditional Saaz hops. Highly drinkable yet complex with a bready, slight malty sweetness. Get Justified.
