Wow! It's good to see a return to a real IPA. One brewed with barley malt and not some inclusion of oats, or even worse, wheat. The pour into a clear Imperial pint glass is, of course flawless, as there's no ridiculous starchy white head to deal with. Be not mistaken, this almost starkly white head is present, but moderate and enduring. It also dissipates evenly, something wheat beers don't do. It provides a nice lacing in the glass. It is a little hazier and less brown than expected from this style. The aroma is certainly of malt and hops, although the hoppiness smells a little, for lack of a better word, green. But it tastes oh! so good. It's not bold toward neither side, but the malt-hop balance is excellent. The mouthfeel, like most barley based IPAs is excellent, with just enough body to carry the hops. The hops aren't over played here, so it's not a hopfest, nor is it a maltfest. It may not exactly be true to the original, but it's closer than many "IPA"s that have almost no barley malt. Maybe not a great beer, but a refreshing return to a true IPA.

Menu indicates all barley (I guess that means no oats/spelt/wheat, etc) and Eureka and Idaho Gem hops

on draft at brewpub in 12 oz glass

fairly hazy, golden in color, thick white head. good head retention. hop aroma is fairly fruity - peach, citrus, a little grassy too. taste is fairly bitter, good balance. medium bodied, good feel.
