Well Crafted Beer Company "The Gnome King"
on tap at the brewery on 19 January 2019
Notes: "A monarchal ale, both devious and opulent, sits upon its toffee throne, overlooking a kingdom of caramel seas and malted mountains. A melting pot of toasted barley and floral Belgian esters induce a velvety smooth body, and a finish of raisin and plum." Black in color with ruby and orange highlights when held to the light. The head is a short cap of tan that drops shortly. Lacing is OK but restrained. Caramelish and toasty malt in the nose with a dark fruitiness. The flavor follows with a sweetish malt that's between medium dark golden and reddish and almost brown caramel with raisin, alcohol, plum, cherry, and some roastiness. Perfectly balanced by a stiff bitterness that leads it to a dry conclusion. It lingers with some dark fruitiness,an edge of dark maltiness, and dusty earthiness. Medium bodied and crisp. Really well done.
