This version is propelled by nitro off the tap, right here at the home base in Lansdale. It came inside a clear twelve ounce glass, with a lovely just-off-white head. The beer is bright amber and surprisingly clear, even for a Blonde Stout, especially one that includes lactose. Roasted coffee up front for the nose, with some chocolate and malt following to soften things. There's even some sort of earthy quality making the aroma pleasantly complex. The coffee also dominates the taste and the lactose doesn't sweeten it too much. The chocolate is subtle, but it's there. This is well made and nicely balanced. Driven by nitrogen, of course this has an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. However, it runs a little thinly for an ale and there, the lactose doesn't help much. Yet, the glass lacing is commendable. A brew that delivers what its intent is, not much more and certainly not any less is a good find. The level of coffee, obviously a significant contribution, will determine how much you like this and if another is advisable. Lastly, it's unlikely the mouthfeel would be as highly rated, unless it's this fresh and in the nitro style.

Poured from 16 oz can to pint glass. Pours a hazy golden color with a white cap that disappeared quickly. Sits pretty still in the glass. Smell is coffee, some cocoa, not much else. Taste follows with lactose sweetness up front along with coffee and cream mixing in. Middle gets kind of muddled and to me not in a good sense. Coffee dominates with some off green pepper notes there. Cocoa creeps in too. Finish leaves a dose of coffee behind. Feel is medium bodied, light carbonation, smooth. Overall, if I ever find this fresher (this can is about 6 months old) I'll try it again and update review as it seems the coffee has turned.
