Drank from a 1 pint (16 fl. oz.) can purchased at Fort Point Market, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip
Super strange appearance. The beer poured a thinner bodied, slate gray hue with a purple undertone. This reminded me of one of those charcoal purifying elixirs that you find in the cooler section of natural grocery stores. A thin, frothy white film topped the body and quickly fell to a pencil thin collar. Dots of lacing trickled along the glass.
The nose was subtle. Faint grape soda notes were detectable. Grape flavored Gatorade came to mind. Moderately sweet. There was a subtle “off” paper-y note as well. The aroma became slightly more pronounced with time, but there was still almost zero complexity.
The flavor profile followed the nose but was definitely punchier. Again, grape soda or grape flavored Gatorade was most prominent. Fairly sweet. Somewhat artificial perhaps but not terribly so. Bit of lemony sourness in the center. More sweet-tart grape notes on the back end and the finish. Fairly simplistic overall.
Medium-thin bodied mouthfeel. A touch watery perhaps. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence that came across as quite understated.
Even though Second Wind have been gaining some notoriety lately for their fruited sours, the two I tried thus far were kitschy and, overall, quite disappointing. Moving forward, I plan to steer clear of beers from this brewery.
