Imperial Stout with Coffee, Coconut, and Banana. We put together a mammoth Stout with our friends from Kings Brewing Co in California. The Imperial Stout base was over 14% ABV when we first added whole coffee beans from Leyden Street Coffee- a blend of custom roasted Ethiopian Sidamo, Colombian Caturra, and Brazilian beans - and let them steep in the fermenter until achieving the desired aromatics and dark roast flavor. We then added over a barrel of coconut cream and pureed banana to the stout, layering a melange of contrasting fruit flavors that compliment this rich, full stout that ultimately finishes out closer to 12% ABV. This beer is a bottle share in a can. We recommend letting it warm to maximize expression of flavors.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Deep brown colored body. Brief lasting light tan head, but a moderate surface storm persists. Leaves behind some oily spots.
Aroma yields a big coffee complex but also there is minor expressions of coconut and banana. Contrast of dark bitterness to sweetness.
Taste is a mix, but not well integrated. Bitter dark coffee is first and then the sweet flavors arrive. Banana lingers with the coffee in the aftertaste. Reminds me of a coffee chocolate bar with artificial flavors of banana and coconut.
Medium mouth feel, with some stickiness. Okay carbonation.
All the flavors are there but they are not totally complementary to one another. Banana and coconut are separate from the coffee, and do not make a good blend.
