8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square.
This beer appears a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of weakly foamy, and somewhat bubbly off-white head, which leaves a few instances of ocean plume lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of mixed red berries, an earthy yeastiness, gritty and grainy cereal malt, faint pepper spice, and very tame leafy, musty, and dead floral hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, a still muddled red berry fruitiness, faded estery yeast, and more well-understated earthy, musty, and herbal hoppiness.
The carbonation is pretty meek in its perfunctory frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of a plain Jane time here. It finishes trending dry, the frooty essences predominating.
Overall - I don't know what the accident of titular renown was, but it seems that they didn't quite fully clean it up. There is a strange otherness lying under the surface, and I can't exactly pinpoint it. Who the hell knows?
