poured from a 500mL white-waxed bottle into SP LC stemware. pours light brown but settles in the glass more of a mahogany brown with a thin layer of mocha brown foam that recedes into a faint ring of bubbles around the glass. barrel, toffee, cola and a bit of vanilla on the nose. more caramel/toffee sweetness in the taste than on the nose. it’s sweet but not as sweet as i recall Bere:3 being. after time in the glass to warm and open up this really hits its stride, drinking like a glass of port with fairly subdued whiskey notes for being double barrel-aged. it has a thick, full mouthfeel. almost weldwerks (hey, WW) gloopy. a really good barrel-aged barleywine. much better at room temp, both on the nose and in the taste. however, i liked this beer’s aromas slightly more than it’s flavors.
