Pours almost completely still; no head, very little liveliness. Very dark stout-like body.
Super potent on the nose. Clearly barrel aged and slightly musty. Nothing exactly screams rye barrels, but it makes sense given the wine barrels as well. Raisin, leather, chocolate, whiskey, oak, nuts, brown sugar, pecan, and slight oxidation. This is as thick a barleywine as you'll find outside of Barreled Souls.
Tasting notes follow. Cherry and red grape, supported by tons of chocolate, light leather, toffee, caramel, whiskey, brown sugar. Super rich an absolutely decadent.
Very thick on the palate. Very little bite; nearly still, very easy to sip; no aggression, although it's clearly big.

poured from a white-waxed 500mL bottle into a SP LC rastal tumbler. pours thick and dark brown with no head. rye whiskey notes, dark fruits, toffee, caramel in the nose and taste. this is quite sweet at baseline but as it nears room temp the whiskey barrel helps cut that (or at least distract from it). thick, syrupy mouthfeel. lower level of carbonation. good stuff. the barrel treatments are phenomenal here. the base barleywine is just very, very sweet.
